If you were at the recent release of Orphan, you saw a big new trailer bursting out at you for The Book of Eli, a January release with lots of star power, including Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis and Denzel Washington. When America, and possibly the world beyond, gets turned into a post-Apocalyptic wasteland, one man fights his way across the blasted plains and blighted landscape to protect a book. But as you’d probably expect, this is no ordinary book. In fact, by all indications, the so-called Book of Eli might be enough to save humanity. Check out the trailer. Apocalypse seems to be all the rage these days, with Fallout 3 still ruling Xbox 360s, the Discovery Channel running The Colony, and the 2012 movie only months away. Dwayne Johnson is The Tooth Fairy, also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids. Featuring a whole slew of names like Tim Burton and Elijah Wood, this might be one of the best pedigreed animated films in a long time. When humanity blasts itself into a slow choking oblivion, an inventor creates a set of nine sentient rag dolls to embark on a mission to save what’s left of life on Earth. Check out the trailer. I’m just amazed that Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter aren’t involved. I was starting to think that Tim Burton couldn’t go anywhere without bringing them along. But this one looks like it might be a great capper to the slowly waning summer movie season–or at least it will be by the time it comes out.
